What is Case Consultation?

An integral component of the EMDR Basic Training is the follow-up Case Consultation. The term “Case Consultation” is used instead of the usual term “supervision” to denote the specific follow-up which is a necessary part of the Basic Training.

For some of the accredited trainings in Aotearoa New Zealand, the case consultation/supervision is built into the training whilst for other trainings, it is necessary for trainees to avail themselves of an accredited Case Consultant. For trainings offered by the EMDR Institute trainers, the Case Consultant also needs to have qualified as an EMDR Institute Facilitator.

NZ Accredited Case Consultants

There are 20 accredited Case Consultants in New Zealand. All offer individual, online and group case consultations and can support EMDR therapists who have completed their Basic Training to become Accredited EMDR Practitioners.

For those therapists who are in the process of completing their EMDR Institute Basic Training, it is necessary for these Case Consultants to have also completed their training to become EMDR Institute Facilitators.

EMDRNZ criteria is the same as EMDR Europe's criteria.
